Active Membership

1. Active membership shall be open to band directors of established personal and professional integrity who are actively engaged in exemplary teaching and directing, or supervision of school bands on the elementary, middle school, junior high, and/or high school levels.
2. Paramount in consideration of a candidate, and superseding all other qualifications, should be their personal character traits and professional ethics record in their present and previous positions. Their record of service in their district and state associations shall be above question.
3. Experience as a band director in public or private schools. A candidate must have completed a minimum of five (5) years experience in the field.
4. Quality of Work: The work ofthe candidate should be evaluated on the merits of the bands consistently produced. The work of the candidate should be of exemplary quality as to command the respect of their colleagues in the state he/she represents.

The ability to renew your ASBDA Membership online is now available. Membership in ASBDA runs from January 1st to December 31st. Dues reminder notices for the following year are sent out each September and must be renewed before December 31st for the state chapter to receive the dues rebate. Dues that go unrenewed by December 31st of the year for which the dues are owed are considered delinquent.

• $75.00 - ACTIVE MEMBER (Currently teaching or supervising in K-12 instrumental programs)
• $55.00 - AFFILIATE MEMBER (Former active members no longer teaching K-12, but not retired)
• $65.00 - ASSOCIATE MEMBER (Any firm or individual interested in furthering the philosophy of ASBDA)
• $25.00 - RETIRED MEMBER (Former active or affiliate members who are receiving retirement benefits from a public, parochial or private retirement system)
• $25.00 - MEMBER EMERITUS (Any active, affiliate or retired members who have reached age 70+)
• $25.00 - PAST PRESIDENT RET. (Any Past Presidents of ASBDA who are now retired)
• $ 0.00 - CHARTER MEMBER (Any individuals who are identified in the ASBDA history book)

Why Become An ASBDA Member?

• ASBDA is the ONLY national music organization dedicated exclusively to the prosperity of the concert band programs in the public and private K-12 schools across America.  Membership is a call to service for those individuals most passionate about improving concert band programs in our nation's schools.

Which Type of ASBDA Membership is Best For Me?

• ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP - Designed for bandmasters with five or more years of teaching experience and who are CURRENTLY in the profession of teaching band within the K-12 grades. Active Staus Members enjoy all benefits of membership as outlined below.
• ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP - Designed for any individual or company who wishes to become involved with ASBDA and their mission. This includes bandmasters with less than five years of experience as well as individuals or companies interested in furthering the mission of ASBDA. Associate Status Members may attend all ASBDA functions and events but my not vote or hold office.

How Can I Become An "Active Status" ASBDA Member?

• STEP 1 - A candidate for membership must have a sponsor who is currently an ASBDA member. There are many ASBDA members nationwide willing to serve as sponsors. • STEP 2 - Download and complete (typed, not written) the MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
• STEP 3 - Attach three letters of reference from current ASBDA members who have heard your band in performance. DOWNLOAD A CUSTOMIZABLE REFERENCE LETTER.  OR, if you do not know three current ASBDA Members you can This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it a recording of your band to ASBDA who will then secure three references for you.
• STEP 4 - Submit the Application, reference letters, and $95 dues payment to your sponsor, who must submit the application to the National Membership Committee postmarked by April 15th of the given year. (NOTE - the $95 includes $75 first year dues and $20 for membership materials)

How Can I Become An "Associate Status" ASBDA Member?

• STEP 1 - Download and complete (typed, not written) the ASSOCIATE MEMBER APPLICATION
  
• STEP 2 - Submit the Application and $65 dues payment to the National Office (address on the application). Associate Members may join at any time of the year.
